The Data panel
Every chart is built on data, learn how to manage data in DataPicta.
After adding data, a new panel appears in the sidebar on the right. This is the tabular data panel. It can be collapsed or expanded. The panel header is always visible and shows:
- The dataset name (e.g., "Pasted data" for pasted data, or the filename for uploaded files)
- A trash icon to delete the dataset
- A chevron to expand or collapse the panel
When expanded, the panel also shows:
- The data size in bytes, plus download and copy to clipboard icons
- An Id text field where you can rename the dataset. The id is just a convenience label — it has no effect on the chart itself.
- A Source text field where you can note where the data came from.
- A License text field where you can mention the data license.
- Six action buttons for managing your data — see Edit Data for details
When you expand the data panel, the main view on the left automatically switches to show your data in a table. Expanding any non-data panel switches the main view back to the chart — but you can also toggle between the data table and chart view manually using a button at the top of the main view.
