Legend
Learn about the chart legend and how to customize its appearance, orientation, and layout.
The legend helps identify the different data series in the chart. You can customize which items appear, how they are labeled, and style their shape, orientation, spacing, and background.
Direct settings
These are the input fields shown directly in the Legend panel:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Id | A text field to set a unique identifier for the legend element |
| Compose Text | Opens the Compose Text dialog to customize the legend item labels with dynamic placeholders for data values and formatting options |
| Shape | Choose the shape that appears next to each legend item. Options include circle, rectangle, triangle, diamond, and more |
| Orientation | Sets the layout direction of the legend items. Choose Vertical (items stacked top to bottom) or Horizontal (items arranged left to right) |
| Padding | The space around the legend in pixels. Larger values create more breathing room between the legend and surrounding chart elements |
| Item Gap | The gap between individual legend items in pixels. Increase this when items feel too crowded or overlap |
| Width | The width of the legend area in pixels |
| Height | The height of the legend area in pixels |
| Background Color | Click the color picker to choose a background color for the legend area, or paste a hex value directly (e.g., #FF0000) |

Expandable sub-panels with additional styling options:

| Size | Opens the Size shared setting to control the width and height of the legend area |
| Position | Opens the Position shared setting to set the distance of the legend from the left, right, top, and bottom edges of the chart |
| Border | Opens the Border shared setting to add and style an outline around the legend area |
| Shadow | Opens the Shadow shared setting to add a drop shadow behind the legend area |
| Inactive | Opens the Inactive shared setting to customize the appearance of legend items that are not currently active (deselected) |
| Text Style | Opens the Text Style shared setting to customize the legend label text — color, size, weight, style, overflow, and text borders/shadows |
| Line Style | Opens the Line Style shared setting to customize the appearance of lines in the legend |
| Item Style | Opens the Item Style shared setting to customize the appearance of individual legend items — color, opacity, border, and shadow |
