Add Canvas
Learn how to add a canvas element to your DataPicta visualizations.
The canvas elements allow you to configure various global aspects of your DataPicta visualizations. These elements help enhance the overall appearance and functionality of your charts.
Opening the panel
- Click the Canvas title in the right sidebar (it has a painter's canvas icon that becomes a + on hover).
- A dialog opens showing the available canvas elements you can configure.
- Select the element you want to add — the dialog closes and a new panel is added to the sidebar.
Available canvas elements
The Canvas panel contains settings for the following chart elements:
| Element | Description | Multiple |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Set the chart title text, font size, and color | Yes |
| Legend | Identify data series and customize legend position and appearance | Yes |
| Tooltip | Format tooltip content that appears on hover | Yes |
| Grid | Adjust chart margins and padding | Yes |
| Data Zoom | Enable zooming to focus on specific data sections | Yes |
| Visual Axis | Add color, size, lightness, and saturation axes | Yes |
| Text Style | Set default font family, size, weight, opacity, and color | No |
| Animation | Customize animation duration and easing effects | No |
| Colors | Choose or create custom color palettes | No |
| Aspect Ratio | Adjust the width-to-height ratio | No |
| Notes | Store private notes with your chart | No |
Tip: Elements marked "Yes" can be added more than once. This is useful when you want multiple titles (e.g., a main title at the top and a caption at the bottom), separate legends for different data groups, or several data zoom sliders for different axes.
