Sort and filter data

Learn how to sort and filter your data in DataPicta to create new derived datasets for your charts.

Sorting and filtering are available from the intermediate dialog that appears when you click Add Data while you already have tabular data. They create separate sort or filter panels, which produce new derived datasets.

Sort data

Click on Add Data, then Sort data to add a sort panel. In the sort panel you can choose the dataset to sort, the column to sort by, and the sort order (ascending or descending). The sorted result becomes a new dataset you can use in your pictas. You can also change its id to help identify it.

Filter data

Click on Add Data, then Filter data to add a filter panel. In the filter panel you can choose the dataset to filter, the column to filter on, and the filter operation. The operators are:

  • Equals
  • Not equals
  • Greater than
  • Greater than or equals
  • Less than
  • Less than or equals

You can filter by text or number columns. Depending on the column type, the filter value changes between a text input and a number input. The filtered result becomes a new dataset you can use in your pictas. You can also change its id to help identify it.
